FAQ

What are the hours for Collier library during the spring semester?

Collier Library will operate under typical hours during the spring semester. Any hour modifications can be located at our hours page here.

Is there anything that I need to know before visiting?

Yes, bring a cloth face mask. Face masks are required inside of all University of North Alabama buildings. CDC mask guidance can be located here.

Are all spaces available?

No. We added signage throughout our building designating spaces and seating as unavailable. Continuing spring semester, you'll need to reserve seating in the Basement and on the 1st, 2nd (limited seating), 3rd, and 4th floors. You can make a reservation for seating here.

Can I still borrow materials?

Yes. Although, circulation of those materials will be a little different. We installed a brand new self-checkout system at the Library Help Desk. You can use that for materials from our stacks. Additionally, interlibrary loan materials, films, reserve materials, and technology lending can be picked up at the desk by notifying our staff that you’re there via chat or virtual help kiosk. Please, don’t forget, all database content remains unaltered or expanded in this service modification. 

How do I return borrowed materials?

Books can be returned 24/7 at the Collier Library material return drop outside of the entrance, the material return drop in the Gunn University Commons parking lot, and the return area marked at the Library Help Desk (all material types can be returned at the Library Help Desk). Please, check the due dates on your account. Please, contact us via chat or phone (256-765-4469) to schedule a technology return.

My account still shows borrowed materials checked out to me, but I turned them in a few days ago. What do I do?

You may experience delays in account updates. Please, continue to check to see if your account has been updated. If it hasn't been updated in two weeks, give us a call at 256-765-4469.

Is library instruction available? 

Yes. If you’d like to request instruction, please contact our instruction coordinator, Leigh Stanfield, or request it using this form.

Did the library catalog change?

Yes. Prior to any other changes, we had already planned on changing our catalog system. We’re happy to announce that we’re officially a Koha library. Koha is a cutting edge open source catalog providing us many opportunities in the future. We’ll hold virtual training and events throughout the year focused on Koha

I need research help! What do I do?

Schedule a research consultation with one of our librarians here. Research consultations will occur completely via Zoom during the spring semester. You can also contact your subject liaison for assistance via email.

Can I still use Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

ILL services are functioning at 100%. That includes material borrowing, article scanning, and other interlibrary loan processes.

I am a campus delivery user. Can I still get material that way?

Campus delivery is fully functioning, but we might have to contact you to schedule the delivery. 

I heard a lot of vendors were offering free access to resources. How do I find information on that?

How long can I keep a reserve item?

Reserve items have returned to standard borrowing times.

Are study rooms available?

Study rooms aren't available for Spring 2021 with the exception of media:scapes. Unfortunately, we're unable to create distancing in the study rooms or clean them. We also need some extra space for our staff. Hopefully, they'll be available again soon. Media:scapes can be reserved here.

Can I use the podcasting studio?

Yes, however you need permission for access. Please, email University Librarian, Derek Malone, to coordinate a time to use the podcasting studio.
