Digital Scanning from the Collier Library

The Collier Library is available to make digital scans of personal resources from faculty. These may include book chapters, articles, or documents. 

Requesting a Digital Scan:

  1. Bring the source material to the Help Desk in Collier Library.
  2.  Fill out a Digital Scanning Request form (located below)
  3.  Leave material with a staff member at the Help Desk if it's a personal copy
  4. We will digitize your material and deliver the PDF to you via email or document delivery.
  5. The source material will then be available for pickup, or will be returned to you (per the request form.

Copyright Guidelines for Digital Scanning

The purpose of the Digital Scanning service is to provide Collier library users with a copy of the requested material for personal use.

In providing this service, the Collier Library must also follow relevant copyright laws for the application of Fair Use for educational purposes.

Due to copyright considerations, we cannot fulfill requests for:

  • More than one article or other contribution to a periodical or copyrighted collection
  • More than one chapter or other small part of any other copyrighted work

The service is meant to be used for isolated reproduction of a single copy of the same material on separate occasions. It cannot be used for the related reproduction of multiple copies of the same material—whether made at one time or over a period of time, and whether for use by one person or multiple people.

The copyright law of the U.S. (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to make a photocopy or reproduction.
