Collier Library's Circulation Policies

Computer Access Policy for Community Users

Library computers are governed by the University of North Alabama Information Technologies Acceptable Use Statement and paid for by student technology fees. Therefore, none of the computers in the library may be used for activities that conflict with university policy, state or federal laws. Collier Library has the right to take actions necessary to maintain a positive atmosphere. These actions may include, but are not limited to the following: (a) limiting the number of individuals clustered around a single computer; (b) asking patrons to relinquish their computers; (c) terminating computer usage accounts and privileges; or (d) requiring patrons to leave the building.

NOTE: By accepting a login credential, you agree to abide by this policy and other policies pertaining to University computers.

Computer Access for Community Users:

  • There are two computers that allow community member access.
  • Community users are issued a login credential at the library help desk.
  • The community user must be at least 16 years old to register and must present a valid government- issued photo id. No other forms of ID will be accepted.
  • Each user will receive a login credential that allows 60 minutes of computer usage.
  • A community member may request one additional login credential for an additional 60 minutes. The community user must once again present a valid form of identification as detailed above.
  • A community member is limited to two 60 minutes sessions per day.
  • Users should bring their own headphones and keep volume low enough as not to disturb other patrons.
  • Computers will be available on a first come first serve basis. University students have priority for computer use and assistance. If all student PCs are full, university students may be assigned computers usually designated for community use.

Policy on Children in the Library

It is the policy of the University of North Alabama Libraries to maintain a respectful environment that is conducive to studying and research. It is imperative that library patrons conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. This is true for students as well as community members. The following guidelines on children in the library have been adopted to ensure that a respectful environment can be maintained.

  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
    • They must remain under adult supervision throughout their library visit.
    • Depending upon individual circumstances, an unattended child will either be asked to leave or a parent or guardian will be called.
    • If a child under 12 behaves in an inappropriate manner (crying, talking loudly, running, climbing on furniture, abusing equipment, etc. above the second floor), the parent will be asked to control the child. If the disruptive behavior continues, the parent and child will be asked to leave the library.
  • Children over the age of 12 are free to use the library without parental supervision.
    • However, should children act in an inappropriate manner; they will first be asked to conduct themselves appropriately. If they refuse, they will be asked to leave the library.
    • If any person refuses to leave the library after being asked to do so by a library staff or faculty member, University Police will be contacted.
