Literary Digital Archives

What are digital archives?

Digital archiving refers to the process of collecting and storing various forms of digital files—such as documents, images, sounds, and videos—in a manner that enables future access for users and researchers. These archives can serve personal, organizational, or national purposes and may include both contemporary digital materials and scanned copies of historical texts. The advent of digital archives has transformed how scholars and researchers access information, allowing them to explore extensive resources without the constraints of physical libraries. Most online digital collections are created and overseen by organizations such as libraries, museums, historical societies, and community archives, where information is displayed physically, but is scanned in as digital versions for online viewing. Some digital archives are only available online.
